Each January, members of the senior choir participate in “Songfest” at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Hanover. Joining with vocalists from a five state area, we sing sacred music under the direction of composers such as Joseph Martin, Heather Sorenson, Mark Hayes, Joel Raney, and others.
Recorder Consort Ages: All Time: Various evenings/various times (specifically scheduled based on preparation needed for upcoming services) The recorder consort plays Renaissance Recorder instruments including sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, bass, and contrabass voices. Recorders are woodwind instruments known as internal duct flutes, originating from Europe in the Middle Ages. The consort typically plays as a quartet; however some compositions utilize duets, trios or quintets. Musical selections are typically from Renaissance composers who lived from 1400-1600 A.D and who wrote this music specifically to be performed on recorder instruments which were very popular during the Renaissance period. Some selections are also performed from the Baroque period, 1600-1750 A.D. The Consort plays for worship services at AELC, and also travels to other churches upon invitation to provide Renaissance music for their services. Music is carefully selected to align with the season of the church year or to align with specific aspects of the worship service. Members of the consort need not own recorders when joining the group, thanks to the generosity of several members who have donated their instruments to AELC for use by this musical ministry ensemble.
